i swear logic is like a unicorn in this place with some of you... i never said it did not come from the tax base - i simply said the deal made with teachers is as it stands. i think it would be fair to grandfather in current teachers and simply lower the entry level salary in granite, which is higher than most other districts in the area. i understand the budget woes of the city and shrinking tax base...but if you think teachers are to blame for these problems, you are mistaken. teachers are being punished and it is hurting the city as a whole. they are proposing cutting music, PE, ART, charging hefty fees for sports, closing a school...there is all kinds of cuts being proposed and ANY family in this city would and should go to another city if this happens. your assumption that public education will be an extinct beast is foolish, unfounded, and completely not true. GC may not place much value in education, but in 50 years we will all see the negative effects of harboring such an attitude. the sentiment you share stating that it is a good thing (by stating "thank god" shows how very little you understand about this topic. to be honest...i have not seen a topic yet that you thoroughly understand, mr. Whisker. have a nice day.
