"Illinois averaged more $10k per student per year. Most private schools cost around half that, and get much better results." Clearly you were not a shining star in school...might explain your disdain for public education. Your statement does not even make sense or relate to the topic presented (of teacher's salary.) public schools have inclusion, which means they educate ALL children, so whatever measure you are using to determine a "better" education is flawed. Granite City has a top notch special education program, which adds to the cost that private schools can avoid by simply not accepting those students with special needs. Private schools not only select their students, but if you knew what you were talking about you would see they (private schools) on average pay teachers less and without a doubt are inferior. the only thing you get in a private school is smaller class size, and i could make a decent case for how that is more harmful in the long run; in a job you work with all types of people from all types of backgrounds, and public schools promote diversity. our public schools only employ top notch professionals...this goes for the entire state and regardless of any friendships. my kids will attend public schools, and they will be highly educated. 2 of the 3 valedictorians from my graduating class attended public schools, and the third's mother was a teacher in Granite City public schools. Illinois teachers have been forced into pay freezes and have had their pension funds robbed by the state. they are underpaid and overworked, which is exactly why i left the profession. but go ahead, keep spouting off information as if you have a clue or present something worthwhile to the conversation.
