it is true - but they were ignored because their religious agenda had no place in government - as the people felt back then. abolitionists were considered the radicals of their time...because those who were not abolitionists did not even view or treat black people as humans - they were considered property (after dred scott) - therefore it was not even a matter of humanity to them. it was not until it became an issue of humanity that the civil rights war was won. jfk was a catholic - obama is a christian - i am not saying people who are religious should not be involved in politics... i am saying using tax exempt charitable donations to lobby politicians is wrong. dr. king did not use church funds to organize his bus boycotts. he did not lobby politicians with tax exempt donations. if we treated all things as we do churches - anyone can claim they are a non-for-profit and get tax exempt. when you make enough PROFIT to lobby politically - you do not deserve tax exemption.
