There is no correlation that capital punishment has ever corresponded to a lower crime rate, thus defeating any argument about it being an effective deterrent.
So, A punishment must deter crime to be valid? Very few laws (if any) have ever resulted in a lower crime rate. DUI law does nothing to stop drunks from driving. Anti child predation laws don't stop children from being molested. Anti Drug laws don't work. Anti trust laws don't work. We can't even get people to drive the speed limit. I guess all those punishments must be unfair as well.
And when did I say it was an effective deterrent? Capital Punishments purpose is not to deter crime, but rather to punish one.
..why are we still the only Western Nation using the death penalty..?
Because we are that cool! I don't give two $#its about the laws of the "rest of western civilization" It does not matter if we are the only western nation that uses that death penalty. Other nations don't write our laws for us. I'm sure we are the only country on earth that does many other things, should we not do those as well.
I am not preaching..well okay, maybe just a little I'm trying to have a discussion, my mind is not so set on any idea that it cannot be changed.
O yeah, and i know he is not technically a "child rapper" But can we strap Justin Beiber to the chair and fry his ass already?
