I wish there was some sort of historical archive on Pontoon Beach, somewhere. I've been asking.
I suppose the original founders decided to incorporate so that this area wouldn't be annexed by Granite City, which it surely would have been. Before my time.
Annexing in to Granite City maybe would have benefited all of the residents, way back then, but wouldn't have benefited THOSE residents, like independent incorporation did/has.
