Oh, and I have several reasons for picking the AA route over CRNA, but here's one that I told some of the nurses I work with a few days ago:
For context, they were complaining about one of our post-intrathecal morphine pump trial patient's treatment up on the floor the night before and it came up that most of the night nurses on tele are new grads. When one of the nurses asked "why weren't they taught to troubleshoot something as basic as hanging more fluids in nursing school" I responded by telling the story of my recent schooling.
My program had 15 minute lecture on pain, nothing on ECG's, and barebones pharmacology. On the other hand, we had 5 different lectures on spirituality and ethnic diversity. Five.
Then I told them that I was afraid that if I was sitting in CRNA school and the teacher started filling the room with nursing school fluff I would probably lose it and randomly start hitting people. SRSLY.
Then one of the ladies I work with said her daughter, who is in the highly-regarded CRNA program at KU, actually had one class like that. Apparently that instructor is on the way out due to massive complaints, but still, her daughter was required to write a paper on nursing theory and how it relates to anesthesia.
Sigh.
In all honesty Stanley, I could not possible deal with that in anesthesia school. I just couldn't.
