Competence has never been an issue in any of my posts, I never said AA's cannot do regional anesthesia. I was merely illustrating a point. The point being Your Boss the ASA has no interest in allowing the AA profession to grow. They will use it to further their own ends only, meaning billing for your work. Please if you have performed anesthesia then you know what "supervision" or "Medical Direction" means. It means see the patient for 30 seconds give sound advice like "Give oxygen" and collect off of your work. If you like OK but that just blows to me. Once again this is not about the competence of AA's, my feeling is that they are competent and conscientious providers, just exploited.
