Can CRNA work independently?????????????????????? Archived Message

CRNAs can work without anesthesiologists does not mean they are working independently. They are supervised by surgeons, radiologists, dentists or other physicians with unrestricted licenses. Anesthesia can never be an independent practice without diagnosis or treatment that performed by a physician. Usually, their practices are pretty simple (in the name of twilight anesthesia, office based surgery) and the complication rates are much higher because their practices are not regulated in 47 states.......The policy in these states will come soon because deaths happened in many healthy patients........Really horrible stories. The safe practice in all hospitals is team work(anesthesiologists and CRNAs), which is proved to be safer than either anesthesiologists or CRNAs. We can image that AAs can fit in the team easily, probably better than CRNAs because AAs are trained as team workers rather than "independent" twilight anesthetists. I got above concepts from a book for patients, maybe it is common knowledge to professionals. Do you agree with me???
