Man....what have you been smokin' and WHERE???? The fact of the matter is that there are several hospitals in this country that have had their anesthesia depts, formally run by doas, handed over to be run by CRNAs....the difference in your statemenet and mine is that you pointed out that the depts had not been run by "good" anesthesiologists.
Not to disparage them, but all of these depts had been run by FMGs and folks got tired of substandard care, bad outcomes, and generally shoddy work. The CRNAs in a neighboring town or hospital were called and the deal worked out to the benefit of all.
Don't be so sure that the only good CRNA is a dead CRNA any more than you'd be sure that all good anesthesia providers names start with Dr.
This ain't magic, folks, it's hard work, involves watching your patient, and a lot learnin', but it ain't magic.
