In January 2007 (that is days away) the reality is as posted previously. For those CRNA's stuck in the past or possibly early stage dementia the fact remains ANESTHESIOLOGY RESIDENT POSITIONS are near an all time high.
CRNA programs continue to open at a good click and more CRNA's are entering programs than ever before. So, the reimbursement struggle continues but with the AA's in the mix as well.
However, it is the MDA's that control access to jobs at most hospitals. It is the MDA that realistically determines which Mid-Level Provider gets to work at the hospital. Perhaps, arrogance and greed of the AANA will displace some CRNA's from the market place. If only AA's had more graduates we would really find the answer to this question. This is the "data" you should really be worrying about: If given a choice between AA and CRNA which would the graduating Resident choose to work with?
I guarantee there are not enough "solo" jobs out there to feed all the AANA members. In other words "be careful before you bite the hand that feeds you." Thus, the battle continues until the AAAA gets about 20 more programs up and running.
