Dennis, The screw doesn't turn, the top lever upon opening backs off the screw counter-clock-wise, approximately 1 /2 turn, upon closing the gun, the top lever gains that 1/2 turn back to clock-wise (tightening). So the screw itself never "gets loose". There are instances where this tiny threaded screw gets stripped and then the top lever will ride up, and it has to be replaced or doctored up with fuse wire until the screw is replaced.
I stated 1/2 turn, somebody with a brain could figure out exactly how far it moves.
