    Top Lever Loose Archived Message

I recently (this week) bought my 3rd LC Smith. So now I have a 12, 16 and 20. Anyway, in cleaning, checking and lovingly handling I noticed that I had to push the top lever very hard to the right to get the gun to open plus I could feel it sort of "catch" a bit before opening. Then I saw that the lever wasn't flush with the frame. After looking in my Brophy book I saw that the screw forward of the trigger guard fastened the other end of the lever shaft rotated when the lever was operated. So I rotated the trigger guard and tightened the screw, which brought the lever back flush. My question is whether the screw should loosen easily and whether it should be "lok tited" (sic)? Plus if I removed that screw would I be able to reinstall it if the lever shifted?? Or is the lever held firmly in place as the lock would be in place? Or should I just leave it alone??? Next will be refinishing as someone had done a poor job previously. Maybe that's why the price was right. But not a scratch that I wasn't able to lightly sand away. Ordered a Warhog kit and that will be the next project. Thanks
