    Jim,
If you took that tiny screw out and the top lever moved, then it was not in the fit. Also you could not take that screw out if there was tension on it because the spring is so strong that you would break the screw taking it out.
Like I stated the top lever has a piece that fits into a counter bored hole in the trigger plate housing and that is what anchors it, not that little 4-40 screw.
That is why I said to make sure that the top lever is flush and not sticking up.

These pictures are of a new top lever, not serial numbered. The trigger housing is Hunter One-Trigger.
If you look you will see a small tab that the top lever spring rides on and the round shaft part that fits into the counter bored hole in the trigger plate. When that is in place you can take that screw out all day long and not have to worry. The only thing that screw does is to keep the top lever from riding up.

If anybody was sharp enough to see that there is no counter bored hole in this trigger plate is because some $ss drilled it out and he made another screw with a bigger head with a step down diameter to match that of the top lever shaft which was cut off. NOW ALL THE PRESSURE WAS ON THE LITTLE 4-40 THREADS AND IT BROKE because of the tension and that I didn't know what to expect or else I would have put the clamp on it.
Now I have to make a press fit bushing to take it's place and either press it in or solder it, drill it and tap it and make a washer with a counterbored hole to fit in the trigger plate housing.
