thanks for the oven cleaner and stock boiling tips. i think the oven cleaner would be a little more do-able for me at this point, but i do worry about damage to the stock with such a caustic substance. anything else i should know before i try it? here are 3 current pics of the situation at hand. you can see the darker areas around the grip and inlet that remain dark where i am still pulling oil out... i removed the dents that were removable, and lightly sanded with 220 grit to remove small scratches and a bad recoil pad match. i ordered a repro syracuse era butt pad and will fit that before finishing the sanding and beginning the finish.
