Gordon, thanks for the serial number of your Quality 2. In "The Legend Lives" there is a hang tag from 1887 with the serial number of 22631, however it doesn't reference what month. In a testimonial from July 31, 1887 a gentleman refers to his gun's serial number of 18,154, and states that gun arrived in due time and that he patterned it and goes on to say what loads he used in his testing. (from a re-print of an 1889 catalog) Also in "The Legend Lives" and in Brophy's book list the approximate serial number range starting from 15,000-23,500 from 1886-1888. Gordon I would guess your gun is from the second quarter of the year and mine (19517) should be the third quarter and the hand tag should be the forth quarter.(my guess is as good as anyone's) If anyone has any hang tags, letters from this period it would be appreciated if you could post such information.
