thanks for the information thus far. spent the afternoon comparing mine to my fathers 1891 "changeover" grade 2, and it was intriguing to note the intricate details of each. my barrels are 28-11/16" in length indicating they were cut off and the the valleys between the upper and lower ribs are open at the end. the butt stock was also shortened, and perhaps the barrel thumb release is not original since the engraving doesnt travel thru like it should. the serial number is 20615 on all parts of the gun. it is obviously not a collectors piece since so much was changed over the last 120 years along with the barrel damage, but it would be interesting to know what it may be worth. the whole gun is sticky, including the metal parts. i cleaned the bores last night and removed all of the old powder that was left in there, but would like to hear advise on cleaning the residue off and removing the excess layers of varnish on most areas of the stocks. i do have some murphys oil soap at my disposal. here are a few pics, and if you want to see something in particular - just ask and i will be happy to share!
