On this occasion it was brought to me after the headwork was done for me to set the pump timing. The pump timing was set with TDi checker, which I achieved after a fashion, the scatter of timing events covers the whole advance/retard range. The engine now runs sweetly at tickover but has no go in it. It is possible to get 2.2 bar of boost if you rev the brains out of it but the moment you change up the boost dies away. It gives a fuel injection quantity of 1130 mg/St when on full boost. At approx 1700rpm it gives 1.7bar boost and about 850mg/St injection quantity.
The system vacuum is good, The vac capsule is good and the VNT mechanism is free, the boost solenoid is nearly new and controls the capsule. The intake system has been smoked with no leaks.
What I cannot decide is whether the fuel quantity is down because of a lack of boost or if the boost is down because of a lack of hot exhaust gas. So pump fault, turbo fault or something else? What fuel quantity should I be seeing.
The engine does run very cold, about 50deg C.I am also not entirely happy about the method they used to set the cam timing (they DTI'd for TDC rather than use the timing marks on the flywheel), so I have asked them to fit a thermostat and recheck the cam timing.
Sorry, all the above is from memory as the work PC went down this morning and I am now at home.
