Yes i have had the same problems i.e. low power,smoking etc. Because you need set the marks on the flywheel through a window on the gearbox remove the rocker cover and use a setting plate on the back of the camshaft ( pulley removed )it appears some people find it easier using good old Tippex!
Not very accurate though? I think its back to basics check the fuel filter this always gets left out on this model because it's a bloody pain to change ( i have seen quite a few of these rusted though because they have never been changed )
Also worth checking the vacuum pipe arrangement on the bulkhead for splits incorrectly fitted pipes there are so many if anybody has tampered with them it can be a nightmare.
Also is it the original engine could have had the lower powered one fitted ( had this before as well )
