That would be the normal procedure I would take,I would check to make sure the manufactures marks were lining up before stripping.( ie.using pins where required )I fitted a belt kit to a Fiat Ritmo diesel years back,before stripping I discovered the injection pump was advanced a tooth,( No timing tools required as there were reference marks on block )set it up to correct marks and would not run properly,had to reset to original position to run properly,never found out why,hence always check original marks before stripping,if running ok.or not.Regards Christy
