Trump and Farage are experts at spotting political vacuums to be exploited.

Remember when Obama took the piss out of Trump at that dinner prior to Trump's first term? Remember when the Remain camp deemed all Brexiteers thick as shit?

And still they don't learn. In the last few days anyone that supports Farage or Lowe is a simpleton, idiot, thick as shit etc.

It's that sort of arrogance Trump and Farage exploit. The people who claim to be against Trump and Farage can't resist being narcissistic self appointed moral superiors. They can't see how they are being counter productive to their own stated aims. Calling people idiots tends to piss those so called idiots off. If anyone really didn't want Trump or Farage to get into power they wouldn't wind up the people that have/will vote them in.

But they can't help themselves.

And behind all of that the political opponents of Trump/Farage also do the political equivalent by ignoring the concerns of the people. They are too slow, too insulated in their own belief in their own infallibility to do enough to address the concerns of the masses.

And Trump/Farage promise to fix everything and so they get voted in. That's how it works. Whether Trump/Farage follow through on their promises or not is irrelevant because they just need to get voted in because after that it's too late.

Labour need to up their game. Tories need to up their game. Neither will. And the middle leaning will keep insulting people, acting smug and superior and creating their own loss in the process.
