After doing a little figuring, I decided to shorten my firing pins to .920. That should recess the tips about .015 behind the breechface when the pins are fully retracted. The tips as supplied by Numrich were either flush to barely protruding when they were retracted. I'll check the fit tonight and then case harden the pins once I'm satisfied with the geometry. Numrich pins are also dead soft which I imagine would peen over time. Can anyone comment on whether original LC pins are hardened? I would presume so.
