I'm doing a repair job on a 1911 mfg 00 Grade that I got as a project gun. This is my first and only LC Smith gun so I have nothing to compare against. My gun was missing the firing pins and auto safety slide. I bought replacement pins and slide from Numrich, but I'm wondering about proper fit.
With hammers cocked, the firing pins barely are recessed into the breachface. There is also a mile of protrusion with the pins forward. (I know not to dry fire.) I'm wondering if I should shorten the tips of the pins slightly. Overall length of replacement firing pins is .935" Can anyone comment on how far the tips of the firing pins should be recessed into the breechface when the barrels are opened?
Second, can anyone post a picture of the proper relationship of the auto safety slide to the top lever? I have a fairly good eye for mechanisms, but maybe I'm missing something because I can't see how the spindle would actuate the auto safety slide.
I've posted some questions on my stock work on the shotgunworld gunsmithing forum, but am now coming here for specific LC Smith expertise.
