Must echo the barrel down philosophy as I see XXX number of classic sxs's that got good barrel cleaning then 3 in 1 or Hoppe's#9 down the firing pin holes and stood in the corner till next season. The heads of the stocks are oil soaked and very fragile. Gun Tests magazine rates Boeing's T-9 Boeshield as a superior long term rust preventative. It is oil base and drys out to a thin wax which is easily removed, sold by Brownell's @ 12.00/can. Even cheaper(3-4$/can) and more long lasting for the surface is plain old Johnson's Paste Wax, wipe it on and leave it, safe for wood and metal. The "high dollar" stuff is Renisance Wax at 15-20$/can. I use the Johnson's as "Down East" is a bit behind the rest of the country economically. Best, Dr. Bill
