Hi Tonski, former resident (junior) doctor here. 2012-25 so at the age of 41 and 14 and a half years experience - I wouldn’t exactly say I was very “junior” when I was striking last year.

The ops team and the resident doctors are often miles apart in their priorities. I’ve had some absolutely batshit conversations with some of them over the years and whilst as a consultant I’ve got a bit of a better understanding of their remit and pressures, I’m not surprised that your missus talks of friction between the groups. Turn the heat up under it all with constant funding cuts, lack of medical training jobs, and the constant moral injury of trying and failing to do your job in a never deteriorating system - then yeah, I bet it does lead to rudeness at times.

I can guarantee you though mate that this will not be one sided. In fact I’d be amazed if the degree of exposure to rudeness and bullying didn’t fall far heavier actually on the resident doctors in most trusts - speaking from experience.

I wouldn’t be daft enough to say that one set of professionals was responsible and tar everyone with the same brush though.
