Exactly this. Working in local government we have had a real term wage cut of around 20% since 2008. People made the mistake of meekly accepting year on year of pay freezes and then 0.5/1% pay rises to the point that we can't get a strike ballot over the line as everyone is too fucken skint to afford to strike.

Didn't do anything about it earlier and paying the cost now.
