They're asking for their wages to have the same value they did in 2008. They're not asking for a pay rise in real terms.

If your response to that is "everyone's wages have done the same", that may be true, but they're doing something about it. Nothing stopping you unionising and making the same demands in your industry rather than calling them cheeky for not simply meekly accepting it.
