2013 marks the 60th anniversary of the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II which was held on 2 June 1953 in Westminster Abbey.
Well, we can now look forward to some fresh ideas on the 1953 coronation, I expect.
The media of today will possibly find some things rather quaint about the most extreme piece of royal ceremonial seen for more than half a century.
But let’s hope that TV will rerun all the best bits.
I do hope we can get to see a really long film of the whole event rather than just the wellknown extracts repeated over and over again.
In threads further down we have enjoyed some special and unusual moments, particularly from the filming of rehearsals. It would be great if more of that could be published.
And I would dearly love to see coverage of the many coronation balls held in 1953.
We have already looked at the one held at the Savoy Hotel - see link http://members.boardhost.com/coronation/msg/1362478260.html
Many balls were held in the weeks before the coronation but possibly the one held in May at the Albert Hall was the official ball. I’m not sure.
