I am glad you joined in here Charles. I would hope you might share some of your personal feelings about all this with us? No compulsion!
Here we are considering only the matter of one faith or many, not one coronation or many.
Discussion of a separate ceremony in Scotland began here.
First, I think 'Defender of the Faith' refers exclusively to the C of E and that is the end of that! No tinkering with it, as far as I am concerned. I am not C of E by the way.
Perhaps an additional title can be invented but I have no idea just who would be the properly responsible body for doing such a thing.
I am quite relaxed about including some acts, or readings, or music, for faiths other than Christian ones to show their support and loyalty to their head of state in the UK, during a lengthy coronation ceremonial occasion.
Just no tinkering please with the specific Cof E Oath, Anointing and Crowning. Have I missed one?
As I understand things, the coronation we know has its origins in the crowning of English kings by the church of England and has simply been continued for the United Kingdom.
If there ever were to be any serious suggestion of discarding it for something new I shudder to think what present day events managers would invent!!!!!
Perhaps the Homage might be the easiest section to overhaul to include representattives of other faiths.
