I was losing track of the other post so I wanted to start a new thread because I think we're on track for a great debate about this. I'm responding to what I felt was one of your more prudent post.

Yes a firewall is a good thought to downtown! But the deterioration is very far along and must do drastic actions and take out slum lords! 100 % agree with this statement. Rental property owners must be made to clean up their act or face major fines. It would help the community and their tenants as we..

Relax in must be shut down! It is not up to life safety codes or fire codes but they get overlooked!Once again, couldn't agree with you more. We called these places flop houses in my day. If the city won't go after them then the health department should. Kids living in filth not to mention the rumored drug trade.

Properties like the pallet yard are a eye sore and not code, but since the mayors buddie, comptroller oney, is involved it gets overlooked. The yard was written up for fire code violations bug the assistant fire chief and mayor destroyed the report and changed it! This is the good ole boy stuff I am talking about! If this is true it should be investigated. I can't imagine a former chief like Hagnauer overlooking the fire code. If that place burns there is a paper trail somewhere.

Also places like Jesus place must all be closed and never reopened! Yes it should. Do I feel sorry for those people? Yes. However there are many reputable places in town like Catholic Charities who can provide assistance

The YMCA is a dangerous building needing to come down! Again fire code violations and asbestos, but city allowed haunted house to bring people downtown! Poisoning kids is sick. The old Y needs to come down and build new life to that spot!I think Ginger cleared this up. The building was abated of asbestos. I remember seeing the fans and plastic everywhere. She points out a new roof as well. Since they've spent that kind of money I would hold out for developer before I would raze the building. We don't need more vacant lots.

For slum lords create a ordinance mandating all rental property conform to life safety codes, fire and electrical codes with SOLID enforcement! The city inspectors are a joke! More old buds of the mayor that come in stick there light in the outlet and oh it passes, yet there is knob and tube in the house and breakers that are not up to code. Eliminate that department and give fire and police the inspections like some other communities do. Not sure that the fire and police are any more qualified to perform electrical and plumbing inspections but I must agree that these jobs need to go to licensed people who know their business. I already agreed with your aggressive stance on the slum lords

Save money on the salaries and vehicles the inspectors take home. Fire inspects commercial already so just add residential and they are more competent of codes! The mayor and all city vehicles except fire and police chiefs should be sold! No one but the Chiefs and detectives need to take a city car home.I'm not aware of cars that go home. I do know the city uses cars taken in drug bust for their vehicles which is great imo.

Maryville road very well could of been retail across from maryville school! Take out that church and all of them in the oath to Morrison road and could of had a strip mall! A business professor stated with the college and close proximity to 270 that would of been a great location! I would disagree. Too far from the center of town and no left turn lanes. A professional business park would be a better fit. Churches should also pay property taxes like we all do.

So there it is Truth. Let's keep it going.

Oh, one more thing. Starbucks was a case study in stupidity for this market. I think people here ar more conservative with their money than to give $4 for some Irish mocha swiss encounter. LOL! I know my golf buddies, all of whom made six figures wouldn't go there.

As for section 8 the blame goes to the county and state. Local jurisdiction has very little control. The new end of KP looks ridiculous and will be a mess in ten years.

Wow, I need a glass of wine after all that.
