I hate to hear this but it doesn't surprise me. We have all the section 8 housing in that area that is a big contributor to the downfall of the businesses. Between the shoplifting and loitering, these businesses don't stand a chance.

The Hucks station, I'm not sure if it is even still called a Hucks, at the intersection of Lake Dr. and Pontoon Rd has became drug central for the village. Just a few days ago there was a picture circulating on Facebook of a woman sitting/laying in the driver's seat of her car behind the wheel with her eyes rolled back in her head as close to being passed out as you can be.

She was parked right at the front doors of that store, with her car door wide open and it was obvious she had either just shot her vein full of something or had just hit the crack pipe. She had a passenger in the front seat of the car with her, all slumped over forward. In the picture you could not tell if he was passed out in a sitting position or if he was bending forward looking for a vein of his own.

With businesses like Leroy's closing and businesses like the one in the old Nemo's Pets building be allowed to open, I don't hold out much hope for the village. The old Nemo's building sits on the main street as you drive in and out of our village, and is allowed to look like a junk yard with trash and old cars, tires and car parts. I don't understand this.

If you pull into Casey's and look over at this building, the over growth of grass and weeds all around this property is unbelievable! If this were a private residence within the village this would not be allowed I'm sure. The owners of this new business need to take a look across the street at the other tire business.

I think the name may be B and G or something like that. Gene's Auto Body another good example. nice well kept properties and parking lots. No junk cars or trash and certainly no jungle like over growth of weeds and grass around their buildings.

I'm afraid if the village officials don't step it up a notch to clean up our area of both these problems, ran down neglected businesses or buildings and the loitering around places like the Hucks that I mentioned earlier, Leroy's will be only the beginning of places closing up shop.

People will not shop where they don't feel safe walking to and from their cars. Its just a matter of time before our Subway Shop follows suit and packs it in. That place is dark and feels very dangerous after the sun goes down.

I would be more hopeful for the future of our Village if they could bulldoze down Village Green Mobile Home Park and then continue on to Kathy Drive and flatten every section 8 apartment. But, we all know that will never happen.
