    Opinionated:

It’s getting a bit repetitive, but you of all people should see and understand the need for cost-cutting measures. I believe there have been threads on this site where I’ve discussed the gymnasium beautification project that was completely unnecessary. It used grant money as well as district money that could have been used to update the elementary schools (for example, the one that they’re closing). These are academic institutions with “programs that enhance education”. As Shawn has commented, district expenditures on supplies need to be re-examined by the people who are paid to do it. Our support staff (custodians in this example) should not have to buy their own window cleaner because the district “cannot afford it” (which does happen). The district may have to take away travel allowances for some district administrators if that means giving teachers and staff what they need to do what is best for the kids.

Yes, I am also saying that there are people in this district (which I'm sure is true in every district) who are put in positions (whether teaching or administrative ones) based on their last names as opposed to their qualifications (or lack thereof). As I’ve stated before, in a town of 30,000 people, nepotism is something that cannot be avoided. However, if elected, I will do my very best to hire the most-qualified individuals whether I know them or not. (Again, I'm not going to promise that I’ll never hire a person that I know; that would be ridiculous and would punish qualified individuals who, like myself, want to and are capable of making positive change in the district.
