So much rhetoric, so little time! Archived Message

You know why you never see any new ideas on campaign literature. Because most of it has been done already.

Saw some ads for the school board people today. " I want to do what's best for the children". " We need to improve test scores and deal with NCLB". "I'll be more accessible".

Really? And how will you do these things? I always hear the BS but never the plan to fix anything.

Example: Knogl "Inadequate state funding" Okay so what would you do about that? You have no control over the state. Would you pass more cost on to local taxpayers? "Granite City Schools deserve better" So you think existing teachers aren't doing a good job? What don't our students have that others have? "Control rising administrative cost"? Not surprised you would say this with two union endorsements. However, how would you cut these? Looks to me like each grade school has one principal. The two middle schools have a principal and assistant. The high school has a principal and four assistants next year. On the website it looks like Granite has about the same amount in the central office as Collinsville and Edwardsville. So where would you cut? Is this just union sympathizing?

Mr. Jones: "Spend money responsibly on programs that enhance education" Been there heard that. Where is money being spent now that you would cut? "Employ top-notch teachers, staff and admin based on merit".So the people there now weren't hired on merit? What are they, bleu cheese? "Integrate new technology into our schools without raising taxes". So the district is in financial straits and you would spend money without raising taxes? How?

Not just attacking these two candidates but I'm sure you stopped reading by now. It's all smoke screen, election time, kiss the ass of the union enough to get a vote ideas. Yet, in all my years very little changes during an election, especially a local election. These things are nothing more than popularity contest with very little merit involved. No wonder people don't vote.
