I will give you some actual examples of cuts. I know they will all not be popular, but its either cut spending or face district insolvency.

    1) I want to see extracurricular activities (sports, clubs, band, etc) funded by more fundraising. I know this will be hard, and I by no means want to see these activities suffer. That is why I would work to find ways to fund these programs strictly with fundraising to lighten their dependency upon the district.

    2) I know some parents like the uniforms and some do not. I believe the "first year voucher" system is not a necessity. During economic trouble, we must cut down to the necessities.

    3) We need to work more closely with the principles to make certain that only necessity items are being ordered for each school. I know that Nancy LeVault has the final say with primary, so she is another individual in which the board should work with to try to make cuts that would not harm the students. The same goes with Ron Stern who is over secondary.

    4) In addition to the previous section, I believe we need to implement an itemized inventory system. I have experience with such systems from my previous employer. We have to make certain that we are only ordering a set number of things that are actually needed. It only hurts the budget when surplus supplies are ordered. If a demand later arrises we can always order additional. This inventory program would allow district employees to see what they are running out of, when to order, and how much is needed for each school. These ideas may not save a ton of money individually, but collectively I believe they can make a difference.
