Again... a janitor and a maintenance person may be two different things. A person who cleans rooms or empties trash is different than someone who is a skilled laborer, such as an electrician, painter, welder...etc. Then perhaps some maintenance personnel may be in charge of managing the entire plant and hiring out contractors. There's more to it than cleaning up after those messy little tikes. Not everyone in the maintenance dept does janitorial work. So tell me, do you want a skilled maintenance person on your staff to unclog sinks, wire fixtures, paint, and get the room exactly as the teacher wants it while he or she is in Tahiti? Or would you like the maintenance people to all be unskilled 'janitors' and hire it all out to contractors? If they're making 50k, they're probably saving a boatload of money.
