the difference is that Paul has been making the same case since 1979, long before he ever thought about running for Prez. His message has never changed and neither has his voting record. He has sponsored bills to audit the fed and shine the light under that rock, he has consistently voted along Constitutional lines period.He is the biggest threat to the status quo which is why both parties try to minimize him.
