I could understand this level of disgust with a new welfare office in Granite City, we know that Illinois' welfare system is so full of fraud that the majority that are on it, are not on it for legitimate reasons. I wish the welfare system would be done away with for that reason and a few others that I have explained over and over again here, but really, this kind of reaction to Catholic Charities? An organization with a great record of helping those who have legitmate needs?
Would it be great it the former Lombardi's building could be turned into another store? Sure, we could use another business in Granite City, but the attitudes I'm seeing here is almost like the legitamtely poor residents of GC are some sort of poision that's going to destroy our city.... Those who truly need help are going to be here in this city and will still have needs to be meet whehter or not Catholic Charities (or any other charity for that matter) is located in place or another in this city. I have relatives who have legitmate disabilities that have been greatly helped by the work of Catholic Charities.
I'm shocked, and quite frankly ashamed of the reactions I see here, and you all know me, I'm no "bleeding heart liberal", in fact, many of my poltiicial opponents often (wrongfully) consider me cold and uncaring towards the poor because of my libertarian beliefs. I'm opposed to a welfare state, but I applaud those like Catholic Charities, Salvation Army, and United Way who help those who truly need it, with far less money (and far more compassion) than any so called governemnt "aid" could provide them.
I'll be out for a while, but read these words, and your statements, and take another look at what you just typed here today....
