Okay, maybe I'm being quick to judge here, but it's thinking like that, that creates dangerous situations. People think because it's a lab, it's less dangerous than another breed, especially a pit bull. Give me a break. What you're describing is a "behavior." It is a response to fear. ANY dog can have this behavior and all dogs respond to fear in the 5 F's: flight, fight, freeze, fidget, and faint. A dog DOES NOT always respond to fear in a certain way, even when you factor in tendencies with genetics. EACH situation is different and the dog will respond to each situation differently, as will each individual dog. So, if you KNOW you have an issue, such as your dog being scared of kids, you need to treat it seriously. Do NOT ever think that just because it's a lab, or this or that, that it's not any less serious than any other breed (with the exception of little dog vs big, but even they can cause alot of damage if the bite is in the right place). Also, remember, that just because right now your dog is displaying the flight response, doesn't mean it can't change to the fight response. Always be extra careful when your dog is around children.
