Jdg, you need to meet my neighbor's doberman. He is a big sweetheart. When the house next door to theirs caught fire, the neighbors were trying to get the kids to a safe place, and the cars out of the way of the flames (the houses were real close together). This doberman had only seen me from a distance and was scared out of his mind when I went up to get him, drag him across the street and pass the noisy firetrucks, and to my back yard where I put him on our lead. He would have had every right to attack me, and I was prepared to deal with him if he got aggressive. Instead, when I sat down on our back steps, he climbed into my lap and curled up and snuggled in as far as he could get. LOL I was bit by a dog when I was a kid too. So I can understand fear, but you don't need to be afraid of a certain breed. They all have different personalities, just like the dobe that bit you, jdg, to the one that was in my lap. That's why I really don't understand when people say "X" and "Y" breed are dangerous. Breed is like race. You can't judge anybody on the way they look! Every situation is different, the personality of the dog, they way it was raised, the situation they are in now, there are just too many variables. Anybody wanting to get over their fear of a certain breed, let me know. I'll find a dog of that breed to go meet and go with you. Just PM me, and make sure the weather is clear and we'll go.
