I'm sure most of you've seen the story of the Doctor whose wife and 2 daughters were tortured, raped and murdered and then the house burned down, thinking the doctor was also dead, but managed to escape. This is a very clear cut case with only the formalities of a trial at our expense. This type of crime deserves the death penalty and nothing less. There is no gray area. Now....what if this was your wife and teenage daughters 3D???? +1, I'm normally supportive of the death penalty, but with the circumstances here in Illinois, it's not a good idea to keep it in name only. To me, life without parole should be the absolute minumum for murder. I do think that there should be a much higher burden of proof in a death penalty case, and a good, comptent lawyer should be provided (I do like the idea of having a capital defense fund as some states have done for those who can't afford a lawyer and are facing the death penalty), instead of the normal public defenders. That said, I do like that point you made, what if it was your family?
