No problem..its nice to see someone who wants to be more than one dimensional.
To answer your questions, no I do not know of any AA's who are currently publishing. I just started the program so I do not have much in the networking yet..especially being so busy in school! But there are a few people in my class who really enjoy researching journal articles (as part of our current assignments right now) and say they want to be involved in clinical studies/writing down the road.
Our class attended the ASA meeting in New Orleans and from the seminars it was clear there is no single correct way to practice anesthesia. There were so many diverse ideaologies and a lot of conclusions that ended saying, "more studies/research need to be done on this issue.."
Me personally, I am not sure if I am cut out to be a first author. However, I would not turn down the chance to be a contributor if something presents itself.
Some people forget how much free time they will have working as an AA. The ones I met either work 3 12hr or 4 10hr shifts, with a little extra work on the weekend here or there. So it really depends on how you want to spend your downtime, you obviously have something in mind.
I dislike how people make comments like, "If you wanted to write, then why would you waste your time becoming an AA." One of my professors always thought it would be cool to be a teacher but wanted to be an AA...now they do both.
Everybody should realize the beauty of this profession, like most mid-levels, allows the ability to pursue other passions.
Let me know if you have any other questions man..that is one of better uses of this board afterall..right?
