Hi NeuroQueen
Unfortunately I'm not. I'm currently working on my Baccalaureate degree. I'm a big supporter and advocate for the AA-C profession. I think all Allied Health Professionals need to support the AAs/AA-Cs. But that is my goal is to become an Anesthetist.I'm a Certified Anesthesia Technician(Cer.A.T.). I'm also a Certified Nurse Aide(C.N.A.,Assistant). A lot of people are unaware that in my profession, we also have our own society, our own magazine, we also have our own annually educational conference meeting. Last year(2006) It was in Chicago.
This year our educational conference is in San Francisco, CA. October 2007. It's a 4 days event. Our guest speakers are Anesthesiologist(MDAs)and CRNAs. The Anesthesiologist(MDA)conference(ASA) is always in the same city same week as the Anesthesia Technologist&Technician conference every year. The topics are about Technology,Clinicals,Anesthesia Team Communication etc.
The Anesthesia Technologist&Technician Certification Test Development and Writing Committee consists of.
Anesthesiologist(MDAs),CRNAs,AA-Cs,a Professor of Anesthesia Education,PAs, a Corporate representative, and Certified Anesthesia Technician&Technologist.
Our society has a liaison with, and the support of both the ASA and AANA.
Our society is a member of the International Association for continuing Education and training(IACET). Meaning we can work any where in the world as a Anesthesia Technologist&Technician(CERTIFIED).
Cer. Anesthesia Technician must earned by accumulating 20 continuing education/contact hours CE/CH. Cer. Anesthesia Technologist must submit 30 continuing education/contact hours CE/CH.
Both(A.T.s&A.T.T.s) every two year re-certification period. We have our own battle with some MDAs and nurses in the O.R.s not respecting us(Cer.A.T.s&non Cer.A.T.s)It's lack of education and communication.
Most MDAs as well as O.R. nurses where I work are unaware that we have a society. We as A.T.s&A.T.T.s are well educated. We are and can be BCLS,ACLS,&PALS certified. We also can set up, prime, and operate the Intro Aortic Balloon pump. We can also operate Cell Saver machine. we can also administer medication through nebulization, mechanical ventilation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation etc.
Whether It's through Licensure,Certification and/or Registration(LCR). There are talks about having A.T.s&A.T.T.s being License. All we want is respect like the AAs/AA-Cs. We are not trying to be Doctors or Anesthetist. All where asking(A.T.s,Cer.A.T.s&A.T.T.s) for is some hands on experience. with in the ACT team. We are very intelligent people we know a lot more than people think. It's called respect
