Hi mike
That's my point I think It's pathetic who ever came up with that ideal. You have to have an additional 4 years of school just to be an Anesthetist. When AA-Cs are already an Anesthetist, just like CRNAs.The writing is on the wall. It's another way to keep AAs/AA-Cs out of their state. And from practicing in other states. "Politics" period.
This is why It's very important that the AA-C profession must take a stand and say enough is enough. I feel that the MDAs and CRNAs who work with AAs/AA-Cs need to be their supporting them.
The the most important thing is the AAs/AA-Cs need to fight for themselves and their profession.
I believe that other Allied Health Professionals who are coming into Anesthesia/Anesthesiology practice as an ANESTHETIST need to be supporting the AAs/AA-Cs as well. Such as and they are
R.R.T.s(Register Respiratory Therapist).
R.P.s(Register Perfusion).
Cer.A.T.T.s(Certified Anesthesia Technologist&Technician).
R.N.s,BSN/ADN(Register Nurse)who went the AA route. In stead or CRNA route.
M.T.s(Medical Technologist/Technology).
E.M.T.s(Emergency Medical Technician).
These Allied Health Professionals are the people who have hands on clinical skills with patient(care).
Who holds a Baccalaureate Degree,Associate Degree, and or Certification.
Those who do have a Associate Degree/Certifications are working on their Baccalaureate so they can apply to AA school(Anesthetist school).
In closing Allied Health Professional has just as much clinical experience just as R.N.s/CRNAs. When it comes to Anesthesia. We work in every area(setting)in the hospital. And not just one specialty.
Whether It's O.R., Cath Lab, I.C.U.s, I.R., Cat Scan,M.R.I., NeuroRadiology, Nuclear Medicine, E.R., HyperBaric, PACU, Regular Radiology, Out Patient Surgery and Burn Center. Allied Health care people are there."
It's the Cer.A.T.T.s and R.R.T.s who works in all of these specialties in the Anesthesia Care Team(ACT). In the hospital with the Anesthesiologist MDA, where there are no Anesthetist employed CRNAs/AA-Cs in certain hospitals.
Hospitals who employ both Anesthetist CRNAs/AA-Cs. The Cer.A.T.T. and R.R.T.s still play a huge part in the Anesthesia Care Team(ACT).
CRNAs what people(public)to think that Allied Health Professionals do not have any I.C.U. or patient health care experience. Which in my opinion it makes us just as knowledgeable as I.C.U nurses or more advance in our profession(care)because we work in all specialty areas. I.C.U. nurses do not. They work all specialty areas when the go to CRNA school.(I.C.U. nurses who worked 2,4,6,8,or 10years never worked in any other specialty areas but I.C.U.).
Meaning,We know what to do,How to do it,What to look for,What to exspect, and How to respond(act)in an emergency. Just another smoke screen when it comes to most CRNAs. Not all. You do have some good CRNAs out there who do support AAs/AA-Cs and their profession.
