With an average 12 jobs offer per graduate, the prospects persuaded Sam Hampton to become an anesthesiologist assistant.
That may give some credence to the hints of a coming shortage of anesthesia providers somewhere in the future,"said Mr.Hampton,44
He left as an anesthesia technician at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. his employer since 1988 - and enrolled last summer in a new program at South University in Savannah,Ga. The program, launched last June, leads to a master of medical science degree in anesthesiology.
"The demand is extraordinary," said Dr. A. William Paulsen, chair of anesthesia science at South University, which is partnering with the Mercer University School of Medicine in Macon,Ga. Dr. Paulsen previously worked at Baylor and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.
Many predict that, In the next five to 10 years, a significant portion of current anesthesia practitioners will be retiring - leaving an even larger deficit than we have now, "he said.
That's where anesthesiologist assistants come into the big picture.
Team player
"To succeed in these educational programs, the student and graduate must be a consummate team player like the first mate on a ship - sometimes being in charge on the bridge, but always following the course as it has been charted by the captain, the anesthesiologist,"(MDA)
In closing "Initial discussion for other programs is going on in Missouri and Washington,D.C." Mr. Biggs said."Plans for a program in Texas have not advanced beyond the very preliminary what-if state."
I hope that helps you in some way gentlemen.
Good luck
