Is it a hospital or group? It depends on how hard you want to push, how bad they need someone, and how supportive the anesthesiologists are. Refusing to hire an AA simply because they're an AA, when that AA is a legal provider in that state, could be seen as illegal restraint of trade. The same could be said of a hospital that wouldn't allow a DO on staff simply because they're a DO and not an MD. In reality, most CRNA's, even if they're politically active, are not going to leave a perfectly good job where they're otherwise happy just because an AA is hired. The threat of CRNA's leaving is heard repeatedly, but rarely do they have the balls to actually take their toys and go home. And if they do, good!
