Yeah, it might well have been those two vowels sounds! Mil told me recently about watching a video clip of an English interviewer talking to a New Zealand subject.

The Kiwi said, "What I really have to do is spend less time with the kids."

And the Pom said, "Wow, I've never heard someone be so honest before about wanting to spend less time with their children."

But what the Kiwi was REALLY saying was, "I have to spend less time with dickheads!"

Kiwis reverse their e's and i's (compared to Americans) so every time I hear some Kiwi on a home and garden show talking about their "big dick" it cracks me up!
