We have mushy peas with fish too.
For Christmas we have this meal... It's dried salted cod that has been pickled in lye. And then you rehydrate it and rinse it with water days before using it. And then.. you cook it and serve it with potatoes, mushy peas and lots of lots of bacon cubes!  In my family we eat it with my uncle's family the 25th of December. It's also nice with a spicy mustard.
