Bill;The shells years ago were all loaded with fiber wads that cushioned the load much softer and did not seal up the gases near as well.Three drams of powder behind a fiber wad is a lot different than it is behind an all plastic wad that seals much tighter.I believe in cutting the forcing cones longer in these old guns to make them like the newer guns.This also helps soften up the recoil and is easier on the wood and the shooter.The other thing to consider is that the stock wood is now much older than it was in its hay day.If you can make it to our shoot on Monday,I will have a 16G and a 12G for sale cheap that the stocks have now been fiberglass repaired after having major cracks.The prior owners of these liked hot loads.Good luck on your venture.Charlie.
