Grey In all honesty the good gunsmiths I know don't work for cheap; and personally, having a repair of that nature done in any other fashion than "right" would irritate me to no end. If I had purchased this gun, as you indicated, at a great price as a "shooter grade"; I'd be inclined to get the piece properly repaired because the balance of the gun is so nice, and doing so will only improve the value of the piece (not to mention the pride of ownership factor!). That said, I don't see me trying to salvage the original iron; I'd look instead for a complete pre-13 ejector "banjo" forearm (with all escutcheon parts) and have that iron fitted to my gun and up-graded to PE specs. Might take a while to find that component; but vintage guns are being parted out everyday unfortunately (just watch eBay).
