I saw a "curious" LC Smith 12 at a GM store this past week-in a glass display case, described as a 12 ga. 2E with 32" Barrels and extractors- I asked to look it over and test it with snap caps- forgot serial nos. but it has the post 1913 Ideal Grade on right barrel top -the L.C. Smith Hunter Arms Fulton NY on left barrel top- no engraving and the featherweight styled 2 screw hole sideplates- gun has ejectors and the roll forward release, splinter forearm, Frame is NOT marked with F or FW- double triggers= and according to the gunsmith report card- bored Full and Extra Full- and it has a raised ventilated rib on posts on the barrel rib member-Also has the same three position safety as found on my older 2E 12 bore mfg. in 1907. The ejectors popped out the snap caps, the safety worked in both positions, but when I removed the forearm and then the barrels (after making sure the hammers were cocked and the safety ON) I took the tip of a key and pressed the opening lever trip pin, and the lever closed WAY to the left. of the center of the top tang.
Re-assembling the barrels w/o the forearm and closing the gun, no wobble or movement to the barrels "in battery", and the top lever stayed to slight right of top dead center of the tang. Asking price is $2000.00 Any comments?
