You honestly must be dreaming the think the aana has a better lobbying effort than the ASA. The reason for independence in practice is so simple supply and demand. So many anesthesiologist want to practice in nice cities with all the ammenities including the oppurtunity to send their children to private school. I have no problem with that. However, so that smaller communities can offer some medical services including surgical intervention the job of that falls largely to the CRNA who is willing to go there. I fail to understand why the ASA triangulates this lie that CRNA are overpaid. If that is the case no hospital would pay. Further, we are able to bill just as they are for anesthesia services. There is simply to high of demand for anesthesia providers willing to live in rural america that the MDA will not provide.
